Background

After over a decade of teaching, PJ Alonzo joined the College of Education as the Clinical Placement Coordinator for the Early Childhood and Elementary Education Programs. PJ began her career in Richland School District Two as an early childhood teacher. She began as a student intern and then certified teacher for 13 years at Pontiac Elementary. 

While working as a classroom teacher, PJ served in various leadership and mentoring roles; these included serving as a USC coaching teacher to student interns, mentor of induction teachers, Clinical Adjunct and coordinating council co-chair for the USC Professional Development Network. In each of these roles, PJ helped facilitate coaching and mentoring opportunities to support the growth of personal and professional development of educators. 

PJ strives to bring passion, support, and leadership to facilitate successful growth for preservice teachers. She thrives in fostering encouraging, trusting, and invigorating relationships among all educators and communities. 

PJ is a proud graduate of the Early Childhood Program at the University of South Carolina. She also earned a Master of Teaching Degree, specializing in Language in Literacy from USC. She is inspired by the College of Education’s impact on excellence in the community and beyond. She will strive to continue to uphold the high expectations and mission of the college throughout her endeavors.
