Academic programs

From pre-med undergraduates to advanced doctoral researchers, the College of Arts and Sciences provides a path for the next generation of health innovators. Our well-rounded undergraduate and graduate programs give students the foundation for conducting research and understanding complex factors affecting human health.

Health Sciences Research

Outside of the classroom, we advance health sciences through research from the cellular level to broad impacts on the environment. Our scientists explore the inner mechanisms of disease, the diagnosis and intervention for neurological conditions, the dynamics of social and emotional well-b a holistic approach to behavioral health and more.

Health Sciences Research Centers

Medical Minors

The Medical Humanities and Culture minor offers courses in the humanities and social sciences that explore dimensions of disease, health, disability and health care. Students become well-rounded practitioners with a holistic perspective on medicine.

The Medical Anthropology minor offers an understanding of health from the perspective of human cultural and biological diversity. Students use cross-cultural perspectives and data to study health trajectories, preparing for a career in global health. Courses are part of the Carolina Core and may fulfill cultural competency requirements for the MCAT.
