Campus Safety Officer

The Campus Safety Officer (CSO) program gives students with an interest in law enforcement an opportunity to work in a non-sworn capacity while enrolled at the University of South Carolina. Their primary mission is to enforce University policies, while serving as additional eyes and ears for police officers, which increases safety for University students, staff, faculty and visitors.

Requirements and Training

To be eligible for employment, CSOs must complete a lengthy application process and meet certain standards similar to that of a police officer. Those selected may undergo training that includes:

  • Enforcement procedures
  • Report writing
  • Legal issues
  • Verbal communication
  • Defensive tactics
  • Bicycle class
  • Health and wellness training
  • Student judicial programs
